Eleven Patriots registered points and all five starters put up double-digits as George Mason women's basketball set a new women's basketball Patriot Center record for points scored in Wednesday night's 110-91 win over Delaware State.
“I thought we executed very well,” head coach Nyla Milleson said. “We distributed the basketball as well as we have in my time here and I think the return of Jasmine Jackson played a big role. I was really proud of offensive effort tonight.”
After a year on the sideline due to NCAA transfer rules, Jackson made her Patriot debut in style with 16 points, seven rebounds and four assists.
“That's what we expected to see out of Jasmine,” Milleson said. “She can play in physical situations and is by far our best on-ball defender.”
As a team, the Patriots had their best offensive night shooting over 53 percent from the field and 50 percent from beyond the arc, numbers largely due to the performances of freshmen Tayler Dodson and Qierra Murray along with senior Sandra Ngoie. Ngoie led Mason with her first double-double of the season with 18 points and 10 rebounds hitting 5-of-10 from three. Dodson shot over 72 percent and set a new career high with 19 points while Murray hit all three shots attempted for 9 points.
“We've really been on Tayler to shoot open shots,” Milleson said of the freshman out of Harrisonburg. “I really thought she did that tonight. She stayed aggressive and made shots against a physical team, and she's capable of doing that.”
The Patriots host the College of Charleston Sunday at 2 p.m. before setting off on the first road trip of the season.
