The George Mason men's basketball team opens the 2014 Puerto Rico Tip-Off on Thursday facing West Virginia at 7:30 p.m. EST on ESPNU. The Patriots and Mountaineers will meet for the fourth time in program history on Thursday with WVU leading the all-time series, 3-0.
In game two of the three-day tournament, Mason will face either Boston College or New Mexico on Friday at 5/7 p.m.
Both Mason and West Virginia are making their second appearances in the Puerto Rico Tip-Off. Mason first appeared in the tournament in 2009, going 1-2 with a victory over Indiana to close out the touranment. West Virginia participated in the event in 2010, finishing second in the tournament with wins over Davidson and Vanderbilt, before falling to Minnesota.
Mason is coming off its first victory of the season, defeating Princeton, 63-60 on Sunday afternoon. Patrick Holloway led all scorers with 19 points to finish the weekend averaging 20.5 points per game. The Patriots shot 43.6 percent from the field and outrebounded the Tigers, 43-34.
West Virginia has opened the 2014-15 campaign going 2-0 with wins over Monmouth and Lafayette. Four players are averaging double-figure scoring numbers on the young season led by Devin Williams and Juwan Staten each with 15.0 ppg. Williams and Jonathan Holton boast double-doubles through two games with 13.0 and 11.0 rebounds per game, respectively.
