Box Score Kelly Schaller had 24 assists on the Patriots 30 kills as the George Mason women's volleyball team fell 3-0 (22-25; 11-25; 19-25) at Duquesne Friday night. Jessie Greenslade and Morghan Martin led the way offensively for the Patriots with nine kills each.
The Patriots (6-15, 2-6 A-1) and Dukes (12-9, 5-3 A-10) battled it out from the first serve with eight ties and four lead changes in the first set. Mason had the Dukes on the ropes with the set tied as late as 15-15, but a 9-3 run for Duquesne, giving the hosts a 24-18 lead, proved too much for the Patriots.
Mason responded well in the second set, storming out to a 5-0 lead behind the serving of Jelena Cobanovic forcing the Dukes to call an early timeout. The break in action would lead to a momentum swing as Duquesne would go on a 25-6 run, including 10 unanswered points, to secure the set.
It looked like Duquesne would take set three and the match easily with the Patriots falling behind by as much as 12 points. However, a series of Patriot runs would bring Mason within 22-18 before the Dukes closed out the set and the match.
The Patriots will head to the City of Brotherly Love Sunday to take on La Salle at 1 p.m. The Explores were also in action Friday night, falling 3-0 to George Washington at home.
