FAIRFAX, Va. - The 2014-15 men's volleyball team opens the season with a 10-match road stretch. The team is also set to play 12 total home matches at the RAC, including a nine-match home stand.
“I am looking forward to this year's schedule. There is a wide range of opponents that will offer different challenges along our young team's development,” said head coach Fred Chao, who begins his 17th season at the helm of the program. “Teams will range from a first year program (U Charleston-West Virginia), to developing programs, to perennial NCAA championship contenders. We will prepare to win and to learn about ourselves with every match.”
Mason heads to California for a week to kick off the season, taking on Pepperdine on January 9 and January 11. Following Pepperdine, the Patriots take on CS Northridge on January 13 and UC Irvine on January 14 to wrap up the California trip.
Next for the Patriots is a trip to Ohio State on January 23 and UCWV on January 24. Mason will enjoy a week off before hitting the road to play IPFW on February 6 and Ball State on February 7.
The Patriots continue on the road as they kick off EIVA play on February 13 at St. Francis (Pa.) and Penn State on February 14. Mason heads home for one match to take on Lees-McRae on Friday, February 20 before hitting the road again for two more matches. The Green and Gold wrap up February at Princeton on February 27 and NJIT the next day.
The Green and Gold will host Ohio State on March 7 to start its nine-match home stand. After a week off, UPR Mayaguez comes to Fairfax for two matches in a row on March 20-21. Following UPR-Mayaguez, the Patriots host conference opponents Sacred Heart on March 27 and Harvard on March 28.
The conference schedule continues with Mason hosting St. Francis on April 3 and Penn State on April 4. The Patriots take a break from EIVA as they welcome Grand Canyon for two consecutive matches at the RAC on April 9 and 11.
The Patriots return to EIVA play when they travel to Harvard on April 17 and Sacred Heart on April 18. To wrap up the regular season, Mason hosts Princeton on April 24 and NJIT on April 25.
The EIVA Tournament will take place on April 29 and May 1. Following the EIVA Tournament, the NCAA Tournament will take place from May 5-9.
