George Mason hosts is second-last game of the 2014 season on Saturday when the Davidson Wildcats visit for a 7 p.m. contest on Saturday, October 25 at George Mason Stadium. The two teams met for the only time back in 1996 where Mason won 3-1 in Fairfax. Both are receiving votes in the latest NSCAA Coaches Poll.
The Patriots are 6-1-0 at home this season, including the 1-0 victory over Fordham on Sunday. The shutout was the eighth of the season for Mason with a combined effort from Steffen Kraus and Michael Butts, who relieved Kraus in the third minute after injury. Timi Mulgrew converted his second penalty kick of the season as the game-winner which was also his team and conference-leading 10th goal of the season.
Mason is currently tied for fourth in the Atlantic 10 with a 2-2-1 conference record with three games remaining in the regular season. Rhode Island tops the group with a 4-0 mark followed by Saint Louis at 3-1-1. The Patriots are behind Dayton (2-1-1) and are tied with Fordham.
The Patriots are tied for second in the A-10 with 24 goals and second in the conference with a team GAA of 0.77. Davidson has allowed 10 goals this season, second fewest in the Atlantic 10 and ride into Saturday's match with an unbeaten streak of eight games, going 6-0-2 in that span.
Saturday's match also includes the 2014 George Mason men's soccer Hall of Fame induction ceremony. Damian O'Rourke (02-05) will be honored at halftime.
