Rhode Island Defeats Men?s Soccer on the Road

FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason men's soccer team was defeated by the Rhode Island Rams on Friday evening by the score of 3-1 in Kingston, RI.

The Patriots fall to a record of 8-3-3, 1-2-1 in the Atlantic 10. Rhode Island scoots to 7-3-3, remaining undefeated in the conference with a 3-0-0 record.

Colton Amdion put the Patriots on the board in the 17th minute for the first goal of the match, his fourth of the season. An initial shot from Cullen Hunter was blocked, allowing Amidon to collect the loose ball in the box for the one goal lead.

The Rams evented the score just over three minutes before the end of the half for a 1-1 tie at the break. Mason outshot Rhode Island 8-4 in the half however the Rams took the second with a 8-6 shot advantage to send with 12 to Mason's 14.

Rhode Island would score the next two goals in the 56th and 71st minutes, respectively. Steffen Kraus was tested early in the second half with the Rams shelling out three in the first 10 minutes, finally converting on the fourth shot of the period. Kraus ended the match with two saves while Nils Leifhelm kept out five for the Rams.

Mason looks to rebound at home on Sunday, October 19 when the Fordham Rams visit George Mason Stadium at 1 p.m. Fordham faces conference foe VCU on Friday night, entering that contest with a 5-6-2 record. Live stats for the match on Sunday can be found here, and live video can be found here.
