The George Mason men's basketball team makes its Atlantic 10 Conference debut on Thursday visiting long-time rival VCU. The Patriots and Rams last met during the 2011-12 season when the foes faced off three times. VCU leads the all-time series, 31-18.
Mason wrapped up non-conference play at Old Dominion on Saturday, falling to the former conference foe, 71-66. Sherrod Wright posted a game-high 25 points and was one of three Patriots to finish in double-figures. Fellow classmate Johnny Williams pulled down 10 rebounds to lead the Patriots on the glass. Bryon Allen and Wright lead Mason on the season offensively, averaging 14.1 ppg and 13.9 ppg, respectively. Allen currently ranks second in the league in free throw percentage (.857).
VCU, riding a four-game win streak, is coming off an 81-63 rout over Stony Brook to close out the non-conference portion of the schedule. Treveon Graham leads the Rams with a 15.7 ppg average to rank ninth in the league in scoring. Juvonte Reddic chips in 11.7 ppg on average, while pulling down a team-best 7.3 rebounds per game.
Mason last defeated VCU on Feburary 14, 2012 in the Patriot Center, 62-61.The Rams have taken the last two meetings between the squads.
