News and Notes
George Mason women's basketball renews the Revolutionary Rivalry Saturday when they host George Washington at 7:00 P.M. The contest marks the 22nd meeting between the regional foes, but just the second time they will face off as conference opponents. The first meeting came earlier this month when the Colonials defeated the Patriots 72-56 at GW. In that meeting fifth-year senior Janaa Pickard led Mason with 15 points and eight rebounds. Four Colonials hit double-digits led by Danni Jackson with 16 points.
The Patriots are coming off an overtime 67-64 loss at Richmond. Junior Sandra Ngoie lit up Richmond for 29 points in her first career start with George Mason, hitting six treys and snagging nine rebounds in the effort. The Spiders and Patriots were tied with as little as 2:00 to go in overtime, however the Spiders would take a 67-64 lead with 13 seconds remaining. Ngoie would get two opportunities to tie things up from beyond the arc, but couldn't connect.
GW is coming off their first conference loss, a 90-69 decision at Dayton. Jonquel Jones led the Colonials in the loss with 20 points, while leading scorer Megan Nipe was held to just seven points. On the season, Nipe leads the team with 17.6 points per game followed by Jones with 13.3 points per game.
Next up, the Patriots have a bye week before heading to Richmond to take on VCU January 25
