The George Mason women's basketball team continues conference play when they head to Richmond Wednesday at noon for the 53rd meeting in the series between the in-state foes. The programs are meeting as conference opponents for the first time since the Spiders left the CAA in 2003 and the first as Atlantic 10 opponents. However, they schools met regularly in non-conference play. Richmond has won the last five meetings between the squads. The last time the Patriots defeated the Spiders was in 1999 when Mason took a 80-76 win at Richmond.
Mason is coming off a 59-40 loss at Rhode Island on Saturday. Dominique Dawson heated up the floor scoring a career-high eight points and led the team with seven rebounds and two assists.
On the season, the Patriots are led by sophomore Taylor Brown averaging 18.6 points per game followed by redshirt senior Janaa Pickard who is averaging a double-double with 14.2 points and 10.0 rebounds per game.
The Spiders are coming off a 70-59 loss at Fordham. Richmond's lone conference win came January 5 when they defeated Rhode Island 49-43 at home. Geneveive Okoro leads the Spiders with 11.7 points per game followed by Olivia Healy with 11.3.
Next up: the Patriots return home to host George Washington in the Revolutionary Rivalry Saturday, Jan. 18th at 7:00 P.M.
