FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason men's soccer team played Binghamton University to a 0-0 tie on Sunday afternoon at George Mason Stadium. The Patriots move to 3-0-1 on the season while Binghamton moved to 1-2-1 after the double-overtime draw.

Mason had multiple scoring chances on the day, outshooting Binghamton 18-4 with nine of their 18 coming in the second half of regulation. Half of the shots for the Patriots were on goal, totaling a 9-4 advantage over the Bearcats. Steffen Kraus made all four saves for Mason.

After a back and forward battle in the first twenty minutes of play, Mason had their first scoring chance come in the 24th minute when sophomore Jannik Eckenrode hit a header to the right side of the net off of a corner kick. Binghamton goalie Stefan Frantellizzi was able to make the save to keep the scoreboard clear. Mason had another chance in the 33rd minute after Brennan Zizi hit a cross from the right side of the field to junior Timi Mulgrew, whose sliding kick narrowly missed the right post. Several late chances would come for the Patriots but the score would remain 0-0 at halftime.

Mason would play the remainder of the game with a man advantage after Binghamton's Luca Bottoni received a red card late in the first half. They would attempt to strike early in the second half when Zizi had his rebound shot inside the box go just wide of the net after Zak Haapoja's scoring chance in the 51st minute. Several shots also hit the post for Mason, including Hugh Roberts' attempt in front of the net after a throw in from Brice Colcombe in the 78th minute of play.

The two overtime periods saw more scoring opportunities for the Patriots, however none of them could find the back of the net. Mason's best overtime scoring chance came in the second extra period when a header by Mulgrew, standing near the left post, was saved after a Binghamton player jumped in front of the ball with three minutes remaining the second overtime.

The Patriots return to action at George Mason Stadium when they take on Seton Hall under the lights on Friday, September 13th at 7:00 pm.
