LORETTO, Pa. – In a midweek tilt at Saint Francis on Thursday, the George Mason women's soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision at Stokes Soccerplex. Mason put nine shots on goal, but couldn't find the back of the net, falling to 1-2-1 overall on the season. Saint Francis improved to 2-2-1.
The Red Flash narrowly outshot the Patriots for the game (15-14), but Mason saw a stronger edge in shots on goal over Saint Francis, 9-6. Both Sydney Mitchell and Kelly Pizzingrilli posted two shots on frame to lead the Patriots. Goalkeeper Lyndse Hokanson scooped up three saves playing the full 90 minutes, while Jessica Andrew recorded nine stops in the contest.
After 28 scoreless minutes, Ellie Gavin scored her first goal of the season to give the Red Flash the 1-0 lead in the 29th minute. Gavin finished a cross from Tesa McKibben five yards out to put the home squad in the lead. Eloa Nascimento cushioned the advantage with a tally in the 32nd minute for a 2-0 Saint Francis advantage. The final goal of the afternoon came from Alecia McNiff, who converted a free kick attempt from the Red Flash. The third goal in the 56th minute would account for the final score.
Mason returns to action traveling to American on Tuesday, September 10 for a 4 p.m. matchup.
