FAIRFAX, Va. – A pair of former George Mason men's soccer student-athletes have recently signed professional contracts. Star forward Taylor Morgan inked a contract with Ostersunds FK, while former teammate Paul Andrews signed with Shelbourne Football Club.
Andrews, a defender who played two seasons at Mason (2011-12), begins his first season with the Shelbourne Football Club. While a Patriot, Andrews started nearly all 36 contests on the backline, helping the defense to 13 shutouts and a 1.16 goals-against-average. The Skerries, Ireland native, scored two goals while at Mason, one coming in game-winning fashion against William and Mary in 2012. A Premier Division club, the Shelbourne Football Club competes in the League of Ireland with its home stadium located in the Dublin suburb of Drumcondra, at Tolka Park.
Morgan, who wrapped up his three-year collegiate playing career in 2012, was drafted in the fourth round of the Major League Soccer (MLS) draft in 2013 by Toronto FC. Morgan became the eighth Patriot drafted and will have the opportunity to extend his career after signing with Ostersunds FK of Sweden's Superettan in August. After his professional rookie season with Toronto FC, Morgan displayed his skills on a recent European Showcase to earn a contract. The forward from Southampton, England, was an All-CAA First Team selection in 2012 after finishing the season with a team and league-best 13 goals. For his collegiate career, Morgan appeared in 50 matches with 48 starts, racking up 53 points on 23 goals and seven assists over three season.
