NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – After helping lead the George Mason men's soccer team to its fourth consecutive D.C. College Cup title this weekend, Wes Sever was tabbed the Atlantic 10 Conference Men's Soccer Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon.

"Wes has been a key ingredient in our good start this year," stated head coach Greg Andrulis. "He can be a dangerous attacking player and has shown good form so far. We are looking for Wes to have a productive and successful senior year."

Mason opened the 2013 campaign, and its first season in the A-10, going 2-0 with victories over Howard and American. The senior forward earned the start in both contests and scored two goals, both coming in game-winning fashion. For both games, Sever recorded four shots on goal, while attempting six shots.

In Mason's season-opener Friday night against Howard, the Patriots finally broke through in the 86th minute when Sever converted a penalty kick after being taken down in the box. The Patriots held the Bison to zero shots in the contest to secure the win. In the final game of the annual tournament on Sunday, Sever put Mason up 2-1 against American in the 50th minute. Sever completed an Alex Herrera feed into the right corner of the net for the final 2-1 tally.

Mason returns to the pitch on Friday, September 6 welcoming Denver for a 7 p.m. contest.
