Box Score COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Two Patriots posted double-doubles but the George Mason women's volleyball team's rally fell short against Villanova, dropping a five-set non-conference match to the Wildcats in the opening match of the Maryland Invitational on Friday. Mason (2-7) rallied from a two-set deficit but fell to VU (3-4) by set scores of 25-18, 25-16, 25-27, 19-25, 15-7.
Morghan Martin led the offense with 13 kills and also added 15 digs, while Tori Price had 36 assists along with 14 digs. Jessie Greenslade led Mason in digs with 17, a match-high. For the Wildcats, Lauren Carpenter's 15 kills led the way.
After commanding victories in the first and second sets, Villanova nearly completed a sweep but the Patriots fought to extend the match. A block by Laura Spencer and Tiffany Clarke gave Mason the set, and in the fourth, Mason was able to extend the match even further. In the tiebreaker, though, it was all Wildcats as they picked up the win.
The Patriots are back in action in College Park on Saturday, facing the host Terrapins at 1:30 p.m. before a 5 p.m. match against the University of New Hampshire.
