NEWS & NOTES
The George Mason women's soccer team officially opens the 2013 season on the road and plays its first contest as an Atlantic 10 Conference member, visiting former league foe William and Mary on Sunday. Game time is slated for 7 p.m.
The Patriots, who return 20 letterwinners including nine starters from last season's squad, opened preseason with a pair of exhibition wins. Liz Hodges, Jazmin Cardoso and Sydney Mitchell each scored for the Patriots in preseason. Hodges led the team with three goals, while Cardoso posted two. The Patriots welcomed 11 newcomers to the roster this season, including five defenders, three midfielders, a pair of forwards and a goalkeeper.
William & Mary opened its season on Friday at No. 18 Georgetown. The Tribe dropped a tough 2-1 decision in overtime. Emory Camper scored W&M's lone goal in the first half before the Hoyas posted two unanswered goals, including the game-winner in the 96th minute, to take the season-opener for both teams.
