PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Running the 10,000m for the first time in her collegiate track career, Bethany Sachtleben went on to win the event to highlight the first day of competition for the George Mason track and field team at the Penn Relays on Thursday evening.
Sachtleben won the collegiate section of the event with a time of 34:30.32, a PR, ECAC qualifying time and second-fastest time in program history.
Also competing for the women was the 4x400m relay of Daianna Barron, Cierra McGee, Taylor Wheaton and Dominique Graham, who finished fifth with a time of 3:37.17. The time advanced them to the women's college 4x4 Championship of America on Saturday at 5:50 p.m.
In field events, Jasmine Moser placed fourth in the pole vault (3.90m), Dominique Graham finished 10th in the high jump (1.68m) and Michelle Wallerstedt placed 18th in the discus (43.65m). All of their marks did not improve upon their previous ECAC qualifying marks.
For the men, Jason Hartman punched his ticket to the IC4A Championships after finishing fifth in the 3000m steeplechase in 9:14.57. The time was also a PR and the fourth-fastest time in program history.
The Patriots return to action tomorrow in day two of the meet, with athletes competing in the men's pole vault, men's discus and women's 4x200m relay.
