The Patriots conclude the 2013 regular season as they travel to face Princeton on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. The two teams kicked off their EIVA seasons against each other the first weekend in February, as Mason earned the 3-1 triumph.
Saturday's match is crucial as it will factor into final seeding for the EIVA Tournament. Penn State locked up the No. 1 seed with a conference record of 11-1, but Mason (10-3), Harvard (9-4) and Princeton (9-4) are all battling for seeding in the No. 2-4 spots. Harvard travels to Sacred Heart on Saturday.
With a win, the Patriots will secure the No. 2 seed. If Mason, Harvard and Princeton all end up finishing the season 10-4 in league play, then the EIVA Tournament seeds will be No. 1 Penn State, No. 2 George Mason, No. 3 Princeton and No. 4 Harvard.
Mark Jones leads the Mason offense with an average of 3.40 kills/set, while Michael Kvidahl follows with 3.15 kills/set and 0.40 aces/set (2nd EIVA, 8th nationally), and Javier Perez registers a team-leading 10.28 assists/set (2nd EIVA, 11th nationally). Defensively, Max McFarland leads the team with 2.68 digs/set (1st EIVA, 5th nationally), and Pat Sibley stands strong at the net with 1.07 blocks/set.
Princeton enters the weekend with an overall record of 13-8 and has a three game winning streak. For the Tigers, Pat Schwagler paces the offense with 3.76 kills/set (1st EIVA, 10th nationally) and 0.41 services aces/set (1st EIVA, 7th nationally), while Davis Waddell is averaging 10.03 assists/set. On the defensive side, Tony Ensbury has a team-best 2.05 digs/setand Will Siroky averages 1.06 blocks/set.
