The Patriots welcome No. 25 UNCW to Spuhler Field this weekend for their final CAA home series before moving to the A-10 next season. Friday's gametime has been moved to 1:00 p.m. due to severe storms moving into the area, while Saturday's game will be at 2:00 p.m. and Sunday's at 1:00 pm.
Friday is also the Game of the Week, and all students win attendance will receive a free ticket to a Washington Nationals game when presenting a valid student ID.
Mason enters the weekend 13-25 overall and 5-13 in the CAA. The Patriots are an even 10-10 at home this season, including a 4-5 record against CAA opponents.
Leading the Patriots offensively is Blaise Fernandez, who has started all 38 games and is hitting .370 with 57 hits (3rd CAA), 15 doubles (2nd CAA), 18 RBI's and 23 runs scored. He has reached base safely in each game this season and has a 45 game streak dating back to last season, one of the top streaks in the nation. Tucker Tobin is hitting .338 with a team-leading eight home runs (3rd CAA), 34 RBI's and 31 runs scored.
Jared Gaynor will make his 10th start on Friday, entering the game with a 2-5 record and a 6.32 ERA. Anthony Montefusco (2-4, 5.44 ERA) will throw his ninth start on Saturday and John Williams (2-3, 8.42 ERA) will close out the series on Sunday.
The Seahawks, currently ranked 25th in this week's Baseball America poll, enter the weekend with an overall record of 27-11 and a conference-leading 9-2 record.
Leading the offense is Michael Bass, hitting .403 with 50 hits, nine doubles, four home runs, 15 stolen bases, 21 RBI's and a CAA best 39 runs scored.
Reigning CAA Pitcher of the Week Mat Batts (5-2, 2.38 ERA) will take to the mound on Friday. Last week he threw his fourth complete game of the season in a 4-2 win over Delaware and he currently leads the conference with 62 strikeouts. Jordan Ramsey (6-2, 1.66 ERA) will throw on Saturday, and Sunday's starter is TBD.
