NORFOLK, Va. - Five Patriots scored in double figures as the George Mason men's basketball team had its highest offensive output of the season, completing a season sweep of Old Dominion with an 85-74 win at the Constant Center. The victory moves the Patriots to 7-4 in Colonial Athletic Association play and 14-9 overall, while the Monarchs (2-20, 0-10) were kept winless in conference play.

Leading the quintet of Mason scorers was junior Jonathan Arledge, scoring a career high for the third straight game as he poured in 21 points, a game-high. Freshman Patrick Holloway contributed 13 points, sophomore Corey Edwards added 11 while junior Bryon Allen added 10 as did sophomore Erik Copes, the latter tying a career-high. DeShawn Painter led the Monarchs with 14 points.

Mason scored six of the first eight but the Monarchs would keep it within a possession in the opening five minutes. ODU cut the deficit to one at 8-7 on a layup by Ross before the Patriots answered with six in a row, giving them a lead of seven. Trailing 21-15, the Monarchs mounted a run of 10-3 to take their first and only lead of the half, as Larsen drained a 3-pointer to put ODU ahead 25-24 with 4:44 to go.

Mason responded quickly as Holloway drained a trey of his own to put the Patriots back on top, and they went on to close out the half with a 19-6 run, pushing their lead to double-digits for the first time. ODU had moved to within two at 29-27, but the Patriots answered with nine in a row as part of that half-ending run.

Arledge led the team with nine points while Holloway added eight in the first half as the Patriots out-shot the Monarchs from the field, 59-to-33 percent. The Patriots also won the rebounding battle, 21-11 in the first half.

The Patriots pushed their lead to 21 points less than five minutes into the second half, as Arledge hit a pair of free throws to put Mason ahead, 57-36. It would be the largest of the game, though, as the Monarchs slowly whittled the deficit down to single digits, as Palmore hit a pair to make it 71-62 with 4:46 remaining. They would get no closer than nine, as the Patriots cruised to the victory in the final minutes.

The win was Mason's fifth in a row against the Monarchs, coming in ODU's final game against the Patriots in CAA play, as Old Dominion will join Conference USA next season.

Mason will return home on Saturday, clashing with the University of Delaware at 2 p.m., a game that will be broadcast nationally on CBS Sports Network.
