George Mason men's tennis improved to 3-1 on the season with a 4-3 win against Navy at the Tose Family Tennis Center in Annapolis today.
The Mids scored the first point of the match winning the doubles point. The Patriots countered winning three straight singles matches. At No. 6 singles, Mason's Taylor Sargent cruised to a 6-4, 6-1 win to tie the match. Jordan Dyke at the top singles match and Aaron Capitel at No. 5 singles each won their match by a 6-3, 6-4 outcome giving the Patriots a comfortable 3-1 margin.
The match was tied up after Navy won matches at No's 3 and 4 singles. The Mids Austin Jones and Daniel Blake defeated the Patriots Tanner Baine and Scott Keaton respectively to knot the contest. The match that ultimately decided the win for the Patriots was at No. 2 singles. Mason's Jimmy Davis lost the first set in a tiebreaker, 6-7(1-7), won the second 6-4 and the final set in a tiebreaker, 7-6(8-6) in a dual with Peter McDonald.
The Patriots travel to Williamsburg to take on CAA foe William and Mary in a 4 PM contest on Sunday.
