George Mason head men's volleyball coach Fred Chao announced Monday the signing of Brian Negron to a National Letter of Intent. Negron, a 6'7” setter from San Juan, Puerto Rico, will join the Patriots for the 2014-15 season.

“We are very excited for Brian to join the Mason volleyball family,” Chao said. “He is the top prospect coming from Puerto Rico. At 6'7” he will be one of the biggest setters in the country. He brings international experience as a long time starter in the Puerto Rican youth and junior national team program, as well as success at the club and high school levels, including back-to-back championships and MVP selections at the prestigious La Copa Primera Hora national tournament. Brian is also an accomplished student and a person of character.”

Negron has competed for his high school squad, Colegio San Ignacio de Loyola, along with the national and Borinquen Coqui club teams. He was a member of the Puerto Rico team that finished first in the Boys' National Division twice at the High Performance Championships. He has competed in the Men's Junior and Youth World Championships, earned a second-place finishin in the Junior Olympics, and the Norceca U-21 tournament.

In his high school career, Negron has been selected an All-Alliance performer each of the past three years, and since his eighth grade debut, his high school teams have combined for a record of 169-10. He is one of the top-ranked 2014 prospects from Puerto Rico.
