FAIRFAX, Va. - The George Mason women's volleyball team sent its senior class out with an emphatic victory on Saturday night, topping Fordham three sets to one in the Patriots' final home match of the season. With the victory, Mason improved to 3-9 in Atlantic 10 Conference play and 7-19 overall, while the Rams dropped to 2-10 in conference and 9-19 overall. Set scores were 27-29, 25-13, 25-23, 26-24.

Two seniors, Lana Zonjic and Laura Spencer, led the Patriot offense with 14 and 12 kills respectively, while the third, Tori Price, scored a team-high 41 assists. Spencer also had eight blocks to lead the Patriots, who had a third double-digit scorer in sophomore Morghan Martin with 11 kills. Both Zonjic (15 digs) and Martin (13 digs) completed double-doubles as well, while sophomore Bernetta Moore led the Patriots with 16 digs. Lisa Hipp's 18 kills paced the Fordham offense.

After a back-and-forth battle in the first set which saw both teams lead by as many as five points, the Patriots rallied to tie the score at 23-all. They denied the Rams first two set point changes, and after a pair of kills by Martin and Spencer made it 26-25 Mason, a Carina Thompson kill knotted the score. Fordham had two more set point chances, and they converted the last with a Thompson service ace.

Mason fought back with a vengeance in the second set, one which they never trailed while hitting .429. The Green and Gold stormed out to a 12-3 lead, and led by as many as 12 points including the final three points of the set. Zonjic slammed a kill for the final point, 25-13, as the teams headed to the locker room tied at one set all.

The third set saw eight ties and three lead changes. Fordham controlled the scoreboard early, leading by as many as 16-10, before the Patriots stormed back to tie the score at 17. All square at 23-all, Martin tallied a kill followed by a block by Price and sophomore Lolade Owokoniran, giving Mason the third set.

Into the fourth, the razor-thin margins continued, with 12 ties and eight lead changes. Three points would be the largest lead for either team until Mason reversed a 17-16 deficit with a 6-1 run, putting them up 22-18. Fordham climbed back to within one twice, eventually tying the score at 24-all on a Hipp kill. The Patriots, though, got kills from Owokoniran and sophomore Meredith Bush to finish out the victory.

Price, Spencer and Zonjic were all recognized prior to the start of the match as part of Senior Night festivities. They, along with the rest of the Patriots, will hit the road for the final weekend of the regular season, traveling to Dayton Friday night and Saint Louis Sunday afternoon.
