The George Mason men's basketball team tips off the 48th season of play hosting local rival American at 7 p.m. Friday night in the Patriot Center. Friday's tilt will mark the 41st time the non-conference foes meet with Mason owning a 30-10 all-time series advantage. The last time the two squads met dates back to the 2005-06 season with Mason taking the decision, 75-35.

Mason returns 10 letterwinners, including five starters, from last season's squad that went 22-16 overall and advanced to the finals of the College Basketball Invitational (CBI). Sherrod Wright returns as the team's leading scorer having averaged 16.5 points per game last season. Wright was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Conference Preseason Second Team.

American is coming off a 10-20 season last year and welcomed six newcomers to this season's roster after losing seven last year to graduation.John Schoof returns as the team's leading scorer from last season after scoring 9.6 points per game. The Eagles were picked to finish ninth in the Patriot League Preseason poll.
