FAIRFAX, Va. – After defeating Sacred Heart 34-7 in the first dual of the morning, the George Mason wrestling team fell to Illinois and Binghamton to finish the day 1-2 at the Journeyman Northeastern Duals in Troy, N.Y. on Saturday.
The Patriots won their first three matches against Sacred Heart, to go up 12-0 and maintained the lead to take the 34-7 victory. Freshman Bill Prochniewski led things off with a pin 4:20 into his match at 125lbs. to put the Patriots up 3-0. Seven of the final nine matches were won by Mason, including decision victories by Vincent Rodriguez, Sahid Kargbo, Greg Flournoy and Ryan Hembury.
Nationally-ranked Illinois swept the Patriots in their second dual of the morning, taking all 10 matches for the 44-0 win. In their dual with Binghamton, Mason had a 14-6 advantage after wins from Rich Lavorato, Kargbo, Luke Ludke and Shohei Takagi, however the Bearcats went on to win the final four matches to go on and win the dual, 21-14.
The Green and Gold are back in action tomorrow in New York, N.Y. at the second annual Grapple at the Garden hosted in Madison Square Garden. Mason wrestles Rutgers at 10 a.m. and Drexel at noon on Sunday, December 1. A full event schedule can be found here.
