The George Mason (4-2) women's basketball team returns home to take on Longwood (3-1) Tuesday at 7:00 P.M. The Patriots and Lancers have faced off 11 times prior to Tuesday's meeting dating back to the 1979-80 season when the Lancers defeated Mason 82-59. Mason took the next seven meetings and now holds a commanding 9- 2 series lead and have never lost to the Lancers at home.
The Patriots are looking to bounce back from a tough 93-91 overtime loss at UMES this past weekend. Mason had three double-doubles in the losing effort with Taylor Brown (21 points, 11 assists), Janaa Pickard (20 points, 11 rebounds) and Talisha Watts (20 points, 14 rebounds. Junior Sandra Ngoie contributed 12 points and senior Cierra Strickland added 11.
Pickard is currently averaging a double-double at 16.3 points per game and 10.8 rebounds per game. Three other Patriots are currently averaging double digits with Brown leading the way at 18.5 followed by Ngoie (11.5) and Watts (10.3).
The Lancers ride a three game win streak into the Patriot center with wins over Xavier, Utah Valley and William and Mary. Mason (82-64) and Longwood (59-57) both have victories over Utah Valley. The Lancers lone loss came in their first game of the season when they fell 63-46 to Seton Hall.
