Box Score ST. LOUIS - Senior Tori Price tallied a double-double but the George Mason women's volleyball team's rally fell short on Sunday, with the Patriots falling 3-1 at Saint Louis in their regular season finale at Chaifetz Pavilion. Mason concludes its inaugural Atlantic 10 Conference season at 3-11 in league play and 7-20 overall, while the Billikens improved to 13-16, 9-5 in conference.
Price led the Patriots with 29 assists and added 10 digs, while sophomore Lolade Owokoniran paced the offense with 10 kills and seven blocks. Classmate Bernetta Moore scored a match-high 14 digs. Four Billikens reached double-figure kills, led by 20 from Mallory Dillon.
Mason led 7-4 early in the first set, but the Billikens tied the score at 10-all, and the set remained within two points from then on. A Dillon service error brought the Patriots to within 24-23, but Danielle Rygelski's kill ended the threat.
Even through the first six points, SLU scored a 5-0 run to take a 7-3 lead. Mason got no closer than three in the set, and the Billikens pulled away using a 12-3 run which moved their lead to double digits. Mason again led early in the third set, and rallied late from a five-point deficit. Down 17-12, Mason came back to take a 21-20 advantage. SLU led 24-23 but two in a row by the Patriots gave them the set point opportunity. SLU scored twice and had their second match-point chance, but instead, two Patriot blocks and a Owokoniran kill made it a 2-1 match.
Mason held another early lead in the fourth set up 5-4, but the Billikens scored an 8-3 run to take the lead at 12-8. The Patriots got it down to a two-point margin but could not overtake the hosts, and Saint Louis closed out the match with a 6-2 run to take the victory.
Sunday's match was the final appearance for the Patriots' three seniors in Price, Laura Spencer, and Lana Zonjic.
