Box Score DAYTON, Ohio - Beginning their final road trip of their inaugural Atlantic 10 Conference season, the George Mason women's volleyball team was defeated by the University of Dayton in straight sets Friday night at the Frericks Center. Mason dropped to 7-20 and 3-10 in A-10 play, while the Flyers (13-12, 7-6) moved above .500 for the year. Set scores were 25-13, 25-16, 25-18.
Sophomore Morghan Martin led the Patriot offense with five kills while classmate Bernetta Moore scored a match-high 13 digs. Alaina Turner and Jill Loiars paced the Flyers, each recording 12 kills.
The teams were even early on, tied at 9-9 before a 13-3 UD run gave them a double-digit lead at 22-12. Mason scored once more but the hosts took the first set. In the second set, the Green and Gold struck first on a block by Lolade Owokoniran and Meredith Bush, but the 1-0 lead would be their only advantage in the set. UD answered with a 7-1 run, and went on to lead by as many as nine points to take a two-set lead into the break.
The Patriots again grabbed an early lead in the third, as Bush's kill made the score 2-1 Mason. However, the Flyers responded, pulling away to complete the second 3-0 victory over the Patriots this season.
Mason concludes the 2013 season on Sunday afternoon, traveling to Saint Louis for a 2 p.m. ET match against the Billikens (1 p.m. CT).
