FAIRFAX, Va. – George Mason third-year head men's basketball coach Paul Hewitt announced today the first two National Letters of Intent for the 2014-15 season. Eric Lockett (Atlanta, Ga./Whitefield Academy) and Trey Porter (Dumfries, Va./Potomac) will join the Patriots next fall.

A 6'5”, 185-pound small forward from Atlanta, Ga., Lockett averaged 21.0 points and 11.0 rebounds per game at Whitefield Academy last season. Additionally, Lockett averaged 3.0 assists per game and 2.0 steals per game. Ranked as the seventh-best player in the state of Georgia by Hoopseen.com, Lockett was named First Team Class A All-State his junior season.

A three-star recruit, Lockett helped his AAU squad Aim High win the 16 and under division of the Peach State Summer Showcase. He is noted for his versatility and toughness.

“Eric is a very versatile, hard-playing young man,” commented Hewitt. “He is a terrific defender and excellent ball handler. He will be able to play multiple positions on the perimeter for us.”

A local native who played travel ball with Virginia powerhouse Boo Williams, Porter, a 6'10” center, has been a varsity starter for the past three seasons at Potomac High School and is noted for his defense. A 50 percent field goal shooter, Porter averaged 12 points per game, 8.0 rebounds per game and 3.5 blocks last season. He was tabbed All-Cardinal District First Team.

“Trey is another developing prospect who is an excellent shooter,” Hewitt said. “He can really run and is very, very long. I think he has a very bright future in our program.”
