NEWS & NOTES
A new era of the VCU-George Mason rivalry begins on Sunday as the two former CAA Conference members now face off in the Atlantic 10. Both teams come into the matchup with a blemish-free conference record after Mason and VCU each won their conference matchups last Sunday. The two teams played each other in consecutive seasons from 1995-2011 before facing different schedules in 2012.

The Patriot defense continues to rank near the top of the country, allowing a goals-against-average of .76 as a team, good for 28th out of 198 Divison 1 teams and second in the A-10. Fresman Steffen Kraus has defended the goal in all nine of Mason's games, recording 18 saves in the process.

Last Sunday a pair of Patriots recorded their first goals of the season. Freshman Zach Herstek scored his first career collegiate goal that tied up the match against UMass at 1 apiece and junior Timi Mulgrew planted his first of the season to break the tie and give Mason the 2-1 victory.

The Rams have won the last two contests against Mason and come into Sunday's match on a three game winning streak this season. Both teams have faced a similar conference opponent in UMass, in which VCU defeated the Minutemen 4-0 last Friday. Jose Manel leads the Rams on offense with 9 points, scoring three goals and tallying three assists this season.
