Box Score FAIRFAX, Va. - A pair of Patriots scored in double digits as the George Mason women's volleyball team cruised to a three-set sweep of La Salle on Saturday evening at the RAC in Atlantic 10 Conference competition. It was the second A-10 victory of the year for the Patriots (6-13, 2-3), both coming over the Explorers (1-23, 0-6).
Senior Lana Zonjic scored 12 kills and nine digs while sophomore Morghan Martin added 11 kills and 11 digs. Junior Stephi Matsushima earned the start at libero and tallied 18 digs, while senior Tori Price scored a match-high 32 assists. La Salle was led by nine kills from Kelly Perillo.
In the closest set of the evening, La Salle took an early first-set lead at 3-1, but the Patriots quickly responded. It would be a set with nine ties and five lead changes, and the margin never grew larger than four when Mason was up 14-10. The score was tied at 22 when Zonjic slammed a kill and La Salle missed on an attack, but the Explorers scored once more before a Price kill ended the set.
Mason quickly took the lead in the second set, but the Explorers tied the match at 6-6. A 7-1 Mason run, though, pushed the score to 13-7, and after a Perillo kill, the Patriots rattled off nine in a row to push the score out of reach for the visitors. It was Mason's best offensive performance of the evening, as they hit .409 in the second set.
Neither squad gave way in the third set early, and it was an 11-11 tie before the Patriots pushed the lead to 17-12. They lead by as many as six, before the Explorers cut the gap to 23-19. A pair of La Salle errors ended the match, though, giving the Patriots their first win at home since September 6, and the Patriots' third sweep of the year.
Next up for Mason is a three-match road trip, beginning Friday night at VCU. First serve from Richmond is scheduled for 7 p.m.
