The new era of George Mason Athletics officially begins at home Friday night when the women's volleyball team hosts Saint Louis at 7 p.m., in the first-ever home Atlantic 10 Conference competition in Fairfax.
Mason is coming off a 1-1 weekend in their first weekend of conference play, opening their inaugural A-10 season with a 3-0 sweep at La Salle last Friday night, followed by a 3-1 defeat at Fordham on Saturday. The Patriots are led on offense by Jessie Greenslade, with the freshman contributing 124 kills. Meanwhile, Lolade Owokoniran paces the Patriots' blocking effort, ranked 15th in the nation, as the redshirt sophomore puts down 1.44 blocks per set. That figure leads the A-10 and is 10th among all Division I players. Bernetta Moore is also leading the A-10 with her 4.68 digs per set.
Saint Louis is also .500 in A-10 play after one weekend, falling at Duquesne in straight sets before earning a 3-2 win at Dayton. Mallory Dillon leads the offense with 221 kills, ranking second in the A-10 in that category while teammate Danielle Rygelski (206 kills) is fourth in the conference.
This is the first meeting between the Patriots and Billikens, who will close out the regular season on November 17 with a 1 p.m. match at Chaifetz Arena.
The Patriots' inaugural A-10 homestand continues next weekend, hosting VCU on Friday at 7 p.m., before a 5 p.m. tilt Saturday against La Salle.
