The George Mason women's basketball opens Colonial Athletic Association play traveling to Boston to meet Northeastern for a 2 p.m. tilt on Sunday. It marks the second time since Northeastern joined the CAA the two squads have met in a conference opener. The Patriots and Huskies met three times last season with Mason taking two of those decisions, the final victory coming in the first round of the CAA Tournament.
Mason is coming off a tough loss against former CAA foe East Carolina, falling to the Pirates, 71-53. Janaa Pickard and Joyous Tharrington both reached double-figure scoring numbers, chipping in 16 and 14 points, respectively. On the season, Rahneeka Saunders continues to pace the Mason offense with a 12.7 points per game average, while Pickard also averages double-figures with a 10.6 ppg average. On the glass, senior Amber Easter pulls down a team-best 7.7 rebounds per game on average.
Northeastern snapped a two-game skid Thursday night, defeating Rhode Island, 94-53, to close out its non-conference schedule with a 7-4 record. Three Huskies average double-figure scoring numbers on the season led by Deanna Kerkhof's 16.0 points per game average. Jewel Tunstull leads on the glass with a 7.5 rebounds per game avearge.
