FAIRFAX, Va. - The George Mason track and field team saw a
day of personal-bests and several ECAC/IC4A qualifying marks as it hosted the
Patriot Games Invitational on Saturday at the Fieldhouse.
The meet featured over 20 schools and 800 athletes, with the
Patriots taking home four event wins and two ECAC qualifying marks for the women in
addition to three event wins and two IC4A qualifying times for the men.
For the women, junior Amanda Denger started the Patriots off
strong in the multi-event competition on Friday winning the pentathlon with
3,286 points. Denger ran 9.37 in the 60m hurdles and 2:31.12 in the 800m, while
going 1.61m in the high jump, 4.74m in the long jump and throwing 10.10m in the
shot put.
On Saturday, sophomore Bethany Sachtleben won the 3000m in a
time of 9:48.74, also qualifying her for the ECAC Championships. The other ECAC
qualifier was senior Mandissa Marshall, who finished second in the pole vault
with a height of 3.82m.
The final two individual event winners for Mason also
recorded ECAC qualifying marks, but did not best their previous qualifying
standards. In the 60m hurdles, freshman Shavon Briscoe continued her fast ways
by running a top time of 8.63. Meanwhile, classmate Jasmine Moser picked up her
second collegiate pole vault meet title in as many meets with a height of
3.92m.
A long list of personal records fell over the two-day meet,
including junior Katea Jemmot in the 60m (7.84), junior Daianna Barron in the
800m (2:18.87), senior Kristin Bethel in the 800m (2:19.58), freshman Siobhan
Klie in the mile (5:28.27), sophomore Maggie Underwood in the 3000m (11:56.02),
sophomore Caitlin Eberly in the pole vault (3.30m) and sophomore Haley Hale in
the shot put (11.61m).
On the men's side, junior Kenzell Crawford took home the top
spot in the heptathlon with a personal-best 4,429 points. Also winning on the
day were junior Adrian Vaughn with a personal-best and seventh-fastest time in
program history of 6.91 in the 60m and senior George Empty in the 500m,
crossing the line in 1:03.94. Both runners' times were IC4A qualifiers, and
sophomore Anthony Williams also registered an IC4A qualifying time of 8.24
while finishing third, but that time did not improve on his already-standing
qualifying mark.
Fifteen additional personal records were recorded on the men's
side, including junior Joseph Thomas (7.18) in the 60m, freshman Teddy Murphy in
the 60m hurdles (8.52), Thomas in the 200m (23.84), senior John Jones in the
500m (1:06.64), seniors Sean Nestor (4:22.66), Conor Doan (4:25.33), John Holt
