Men's Soccer Begins Five-Game Homestand on Friday

The Patriots return to the pitch on Friday, kicking off a string of five matches at George Mason Stadium. The squad is coming off of a 2-1 double overtime win over American last Saturday to capture its third-consecutive D.C. College Cup title. Sophomore Timi Mulgrew netted the game winner just two minutes into the second overtime, and currently leads the team with two goals and five points. Keeper Dustin Butcher has started all three matches for Mason, posting a 0.32 goals-against average (one goal against) and a .800 save percentage (four saves).

Friday's match versus Saint Peter's is the Game of the Week! All Mason students will receive free Mason sunglasses for the Game of the Week giveaway at Friday's match.  The sunglasses are limited to the first 300 students, so arrive early!  In addition, sign-ups will begin for the next Friday's halftime wing-eating contest to take place on the field as a part of Wingstock '12!  Students can secure their spot in the annual Mason soccer tradition at Friday's match and be entered to win great prizes that include premium Washington Capitals tickets and gift cards to Hard Times Cafe!

The Patriots and Peacocks face each other for the second time in program history on Friday evening. Saint Peter's leads the all-time series, 1-0, winning in Fairfax during the 2007 season.

Saint Peter's comes into the match with an overall record of 2-1. Friday's match is the start of a five-game road trip for the Peacocks after playing two of their first three matches at home. They last took to the pitch on Tuesday, rallying to defeat Lehigh, 3-2, in overtime. Noah Sadaoui leads the Peacocks with eight points (four goals) and keeper Carlos Suarez has started all three games, posting a 1.62 goals-against average (five goals against) and a .750 save percentage (15 saves).

This is the first ever-meeting between the two squads. Mason is 13-3-1 all-time against NEC opponents, most recently defeating LIU Brooklyn, 3-0, in the season opener.

The Terriers face a pair of D.C. area opponents this weekend, playing American University on Friday before traveling to Fairfax on Sunday. St. Francis dropped its first two matches of the season but rebounded with a 5-1 win over Saint Joseph's last Saturday. Adam Maabdi leads the Terriers with one goal and one assist. Keeper Tyler Clarhaut has been the go-to, owning a 1.41 goals-against average (four goals against) and a .765 save percentage (13 saves) in three matches.
