LEESBURG,
Va. - The George Mason men's and women's cross country
teams each placed second in their respective races at the Mason Invitational
this Saturday. The race was held at Oatlands Plantation in Leesburg, Va.
The men ran a conservative first half of the race
and then kicked it into gear in the second leg of the race. Junior Alex Ott was
the first Patriot to cross the line with a time of 25:17.1 and a fourth place
showing. Less than two seconds later at fifth place was teammate and fellow
junior John Holt. Also finishing in the top-15 for the Patriots was senior Robert
Reynolds and sophomore Stuart Lampen-Crowell.
Sophomores Bethany Sachtleben and Peyton Lowe had
strong races for the women. For the second consecutive race Sachtleben was first
across the line for Mason, she finished third overall with a time of 22:18.6.
Lowe finished 16th and had a time of 23:33.5 in her first race of
the season.
LaSalle won both the women's and men's races. George
Washington University, American, UMBC, Mount St. Mary's, St. Bonaventure, Howard
(Women) and JMU (Women) also competed in the Invitational.
For their next race the Patriot men and women will
compete in separate races. On October 12th, the men will head to Appalachian
State to compete in the Blue Ridge Open. The women will head to Delaware for the
Blue Hen Invitational, October 13th.
