FAIRFAX, Va. - George Mason freshman forward Ghiles
Harmouche was named the CAA Rookie of the Week, as announced by the conference
office on Monday afternoon.
Harmouche helped lead the Patriots to two wins over the
weekend, notching one goal in each contest. It is the first weekly honor in his
collegiate career.
In a 5-1 triumph over Saint Peter's on Friday it took
Harmouche just 2:29 to find the net as he used his body to settle a cross from
sophomore Brennan Zizi to put the Patriots up, 1-0. On Sunday he scored in the
11th minute, collecting a cross from sophomore Timi Mulgrew and
drawing the Terriers keeper off of his line before sending the shot home to
help Mason to a 3-2 win.
Harmouche has played in all five games for the Patriots this
season, ranking third on the team with seven points (3g, 1a). He is currently
the top rookie scorer in the CAA.
Mason is 5-0 on the season, its best undefeated start since
1991. The Patriots have outscored their opponents, 16-4, and have scored first
in all but one match.
The team returns to the pitch on Saturday, hosting UMBC at
7:00 p.m. It is the Game of the Week, and the first 400 students with a valid
ID will receive a Wingstock t-shirt in addition to free wings for all students
in attendance courtesy of Hard Times Cafe. There will also be a wing eating
contest at halftime, with the winner receiving four premium Washington Capitals
tickets.
