FAIRFAX, Va. - George Mason men's volleyball Head Coach Fred Chao has announced four additions to the program for the upcoming 2013 season. The four athletes represent a balance on the court, as they bring in a setter, outside hitter, opposite hitter and middle blocker.

"I am very excited about this year's incoming freshmen," said Head Coach Fred Chao. "They are a solid core of players for the future of the program. The upcoming season is likely to feature many of our seniors, so the freshmen will have a great opportunity to mature and develop before they are asked to compete for us. Each of them has the potential to become prominent players in future line ups."

Jackson Carr, Graham Gresham, Joe Norman and Jack Wilson will all join the Mason roster this fall, bringing with them a bevy of talent from their prep experiences.

A 6-0 setter from Manhattan Beach, Calif., Carr comes to Mason from Mira Costa High School, which ranked second in the final 2012 Powerade Fab 50 Boys' Volleyball Rankings after winning the CIF Southern Section  and Southern California Region Championships. A two-year letterwinner, Carr earned first team all-conference, Bay League MVP and Daily Breeze 2012 Player of the Year while serving as team captain during his senior campaign. Outside of high school competition, he was a silver medalist in the Open 17's and bronze medalist in the Open 14's at the Junior Nationals, and also played club volleyball for Manhattan Beach.

"Jackson is already an accomplished setter, with success at very high levels of club and high school," said Chao. "He will be an asset in the gym from the first day."

Gresham, a 6-6 middle blocker hails from Midlothian, Va., where he was a two-year letterwinner at Cosby High School. Serving as a team captain during his final season with the Titans, he took home first team all-district, all-region and all-metro accolades. He was also named to the all-tournament team at the Virginia Volleyball Showcase and Virginia Endless Summer Volleyball Tournament.

Also hailing from Midlothain is Wilson, who served as an outside hitter at Cosby. Bringing a 6-6 frame to the attack, he was named to the Top 30 Underclassmen to Watch and USA Volleyball High Performance Continental Team as a junior and the 2012 Volleyball Magazine Fab 50 list as a senior.

"Graham and Jack were high school and club teammates and I have been able to follow their development from early on," said Chao.  "With some solid work in the weight room, each of them will become physical players at their respective positions."

A native of Bay Shore, N.Y., Norman earned two letters in volleyball at Bay Shore High School. A 6-8 opposite hitter, Norman collected all-county, all-county tournament, all-Long Island and all-league accolades during his high school career.

"Joe has the physical presence to become a top level right side," said Chao. "Our training environment will help him continue to get the volleyball experience he needs to maximize his athletic gifts."

The newcomers join a men's volleyball team that advanced to the finals of the EIVA Championship Tournament last season.
