George Mason men's basketball players Corey Edwards, Vaughn
Gray and Anali Okoloji and track and field athlete Andrew Pitts joined Vice
President Joe Biden at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building in Washington,
DC yesterday for the release of a new Public Service Announcement (PSA) as part
of the 1 is 2 Many campaign.
In September 2011, Vice President Biden launched the 1 is 2
Many initiative to focus on a troubling fact—women between the ages of 16 and
24 experience the highest rates of relationship violence. By targeting the
importance of changing attitudes that lead to violence and educating the public
on the realities of abuse, the Administration is leading the way in an effort
to stop violence against women before it begins. 1 is 2 Many uses technology and
outreach to spread the message about reducing dating violence and sexual
assault among teens and young adults.
The 1 is 2 Many PSA's target audience is men of the same age
group, and will air on the ESPN Networks, the Fox Sports Networks, MLB Network
and NFL Network during the summer.
In this PSA, former Yankees manager Joe Torre, LA Galaxy's
David Beckham, NY Knicks Jeremy Lin, Tampa Bay Rays Evan Longoria, NY Giants
Eli Manning, Philadelphia Phillies Jimmy Rollins and ESPN's Andy Katz ask all
men to step up, talk about how wrong it is, and help end the violence. Watch
the video here at www.whitehouse.gov/1is2many
where you can also catch up on the latest on the administration's efforts to
address youth dating violence and sexual assault.
