DALLAS,
Texas - George Mason junior relief pitcher Chris O'Grady was named to the National Collegiate
Baseball Writers Association semifinalist list for the Dick Howser Trophy.
The award,
given to the top player in collegiate baseball, will be presented on Friday,
June 15 on opening day of the 2012 College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska.
O'Grady is one of two CAA representatives on the list, joined by Hofstra outfielder Danny Poma. The group of semifinalists is comprised of candidates from
17 different conferences and 32 different schools. Earlier this season he was
also named to the NCBWA Stopper of the Year Award watch list, given to the top
relief pitcher in the country.
Appearing in
23 games in relief for the Patriots this season, O'Grady has posted a 0.54 ERA
with 14 saves, a mark that ties the school record for single season saves. In
33.1 innings of work he has struck out 46 while allowing just two earned runs
and walking just 16 batters faced.
