ERIE, Pa. - Three George Mason men's volleyball players
earned EIVA postseason honors, as announced by the conference office in
anticipation of the upcoming EIVA Tournament at Penn State.
Junior outside hitter Michael Kvidahl earned First Team All-EIVA
accolades for the first time in his career, while junior middle blocker Piotr
Dabrowski and junior outside hitter Mark Jones were both tabbed to the second
team.
"For these players to earn recognition from the conference is a testament to the
sustained work throughout the year by the entire team," said Head Coach Fred Chao. "Everyone
continued to work through the losses and remained focus on getting
better. As the team improved, it gave these three individuals a chance
to be recognized."
Kvidahl has appeared in 79 sets for the Patriots this
season, currently ranking second on the team with 238 kills (3.01 kills/set)
while leading the team with 40 service aces on the season. He set a school
record with 10 service aces at Princeton in March, and stands second in the
conference and sixth nationally with an average of 0.51 aces/set.
Dabrowski was one of just two players to appear in all 113
sets for Mason en route to earning postseason conference recognition for
the first time in his career. Posting a team-best 169 total blocks
(20BS, 149BA), his blocks total
is currently the second-best single season total in program history, and
he has
moved to fifth all-time with 298 career blocks. He was named the EIVA
Defensive
Player of the Week three times, while ranking in the top-10 nationally
all
season in blocks per set. Dabrowski finished the regular season second
in the EIVA and
third in the nation averaging 1.50 blocks/set.
Earning All-EIVA accolades for the second time in his
career, Jones led the Mason offense with 280 kills (3.22 kills/set) while also
dishing out 94 set assists. His kill average ranked ninth in the conference and
his kill total puts him in a tie for 15th all-time in single season
kills. He also owns the seventh-best career kills total with 715. Defensively
he ranked second on the team with 142 digs and also chipped in 44 blocks (1BS,
43BA).
Penn State's Joe Sunder was named the Uvaldo Acosta Memorial
EIVA Player of the Year, Princeton's Cody Kessel was recognized as the EIVA
Newcomer of the Year, and Harvard Head Coach Brian Baise was named the Bob
Sweeney EIVA Coach of the Year. You can see the entire list of winners here.
