ERIE, Pa. - Winning four of its final conference matches, the
George Mason men's volleyball team captured the No. 3 seed in the upcoming EIVA
Tournament to be held on the campus of Penn State later this week.
Mason finished the regular season 12-16 overall and 8-6 in
conference play. The Patriots will face No. 2 seed Harvard on Thursday evening
at 5:30 pm at Rec Hall on the campus of Penn State. The Crimson earned the
second seed after finishing the season with a 10-4 conference record while
going 18-5 overall.
The other semifinal match will pit No. 1 Penn State against No. 4
Princeton, with the winners of the semifinal matches scheduled to square off in
the conference championship match on Saturday at 7:00 pm.
"We are looking forward to playing at a higher level than before
heading into the tournament," said Head Coach Fred Chao. "We have been building
momentum late in the season and hope to peak this week."
The Patriots enter the tournament having won four of their last
six matches and four of their last five conference contests. Mason and Harvard
split the season series, as Mason swept Harvard 3-0 (25-21, 25-21, 26-24) in
Cambridge in February before the Crimson traveled to The RAC and took a five
set decision over the Patriots, 3-2 (25-18, 22-25, 23-25, 25-20, 17-15).
