RICHMOND, Va. - Just a week after being named All-CAA First
Team, redshirt senior Taleia Moton continues to add the accolades to her
tremendous season notching Richmond Times-Dispatch Division I All-State Team
honors on Wednesday.
Moton capped her George Mason career with a 20.7 points per
game average, ranking third in the Colonial Athletic Association and 12th
nationally. The Fort Washington, Md. native broke the single season scoring
record, finishing the campaign with 642 points, and became the quickest player
in George Mason women's basketball history to cross the 1,000-career point mark
in just 61 games.
The senior scored 30+ points in six games this season and is
just the third Patriot in program history to finish a season averaging over 20
points a game.
Moton was joined on the Division I team by fellow CAA
student-athlete Courtney Hurt of VCU in addition to Richmond guard Abby Oliver,
Virginia guard Ariana Moorer and Hampton guard Jericka Jenkins. Hurt earned
individual recognition being named The Times-Dispatch state women's player of
the year.
Last week prior to the start of the CAA Women's Basketball
Championship, Moton became the first Patriot since Jen Derevjanik in 2004 to
receive an All-CAA First Team honor. She was also tabbed the CAA Women's
Basketball Player of the Week on three occasions throughout the season.
