Men's volleyball
returns to the RAC after an eight match road trip to host the No. 14 Loyola-Chicago
Ramblers and No. 7 Lewis Flyers. The squad went 3-5 on the road, which included
matchups against both Loyola (L, 1-3) and Lewis (L, 1-3).
The Patriots
opened EIVA conference play last weekend, defeating Harvard by a score of 3-0 before
falling to Sacred Heart, 3-2. Junior middle blocker Piotr Dabrowski had an
outstanding defensive performance during the two matches, posting eight blocks
against Harvard and 10 against Sacred Heart en route to earning EIVA Defensive
Player of the Week honors. He currently ranks second in the conference and
fifth in the nation with an average of 1.48 blocks/set. Offensively, Mason is
led by junior outside hitter Mark Jones who is averaging 4.06 kills/set, the
best mark in the conference and sixth-best in the nation.

Notes: The Ramblers won the first
meeting between the two squads earlier this season, 3-1. Loyola won the first
two sets before Mason captured the third set. However, the Ramblers proved to
be too much as they won the fourth set and match. Mason's Mark Jones and Loyola's
Cod Caldwell and Joseph Smalzer finished with a game-high 13 kills apiece,
while Mason's Hunter Stevens chipped in a game-high six blocks.
This season the Ramblers are led
by Smalzer's 3.82 kills/set, while Matt Mirick has a team-high 10.95 assists/set
(9th nationally) and Eric Daliege averages 0.90 blocks/set.

Notes: Lewis defeated Mason, 3-1 earlier
this season with wins in the 1, 3 and 4 sets. LU's Jay Petty had a game-high 20
assists, while BJ Boldog had 51 assists and Matt Galik finished with six
blocks. Mason received 13 kills from Mark Jones, 33 assists from Pete
Cuppernull and four blocks from Hunter Stevens.
Petty leads the Flyers with 4.08
kills/set (5th nationally), while Boldog avrages 10.38 assists/set (12th
nationally) and Galik has a teamhigh 1.08 blocks/set.
