RICHMOND - Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell today
announced that college basketball fans nationwide will be
able to watch the 2012 and 2013 "Governor's Holiday Hoops
Classic." NBC Sports Network will telecast the 2012 and 2013
doubleheader basketball games live from the Richmond
Coliseum. The "Governor's Holiday Hoops Classic" will
benefit Virginia's Food Banks and will take place in
December 2012 and 2013 and feature in-state teams
representing the ACC, CAA, MEAC and Atlantic 10. The
inaugural Classic tips-off on December 22nd.
Governor McDonnell said, "I am thrilled to announce this
partnership between NBC Sports Network and the Governor's
Holiday Hoops Classic. NBC Sports Network has a record of
covering some of the most exciting events in the world, from
the London Olympics to college football, and we look forward
to their broadcasting the 'Governor's Holiday Hoops
Classic.'" Governor McDonnell continued, "The inaugural
Governor's Holiday Hoops Classic will feature an exciting
3:00pm matchup between the University of Richmond and George
Mason University and immediately following, Old Dominion
University versus the University of Virginia. This
doubleheader will feature some of the best teams in the
Commonwealth bringing their rivalries to the hardwood, while
raising food and funds for our incredible Food Banks at the
same time. And now, through this partnership with NBC
Sports, this great event will be available to audiences all
across the country. I thank NBC Sports for joining with us
to bring these games to a nationwide audience, and I look
