The George Mason men's soccer team returns to the Colonial Athletic Association Championship field for the first time since 2008 as the fifth-seeded Patriots travel to No. 4-seed Hofstra on Monday night in the first round of the tournament.
Mason's last appearance in the CAA Championship netted the Patriots their fifth conference title, as the 2008 Patriots earned the third seed and defeated Hofstra, William & Mary and Northeastern en route to the crown.
This year's Patriots concluded the regular-season with a 2-1 overtime loss at Georgia State, and are led by senior Taylor Morgan who has tallied 13 goals, a figure which leads the conference and ranks eighth nationally.
Hofstra is coming off a 2-2 tie at home with William & Mary, with a 2-2 record in its previous four games before that. Maid Memic has been the top offensive threat for the Pride, scoring eight goals this season.
The winner of Monday's match will move on to the semifinals, where they will face top-seed Drexel on Friday night at 7:30 p.m. in Philadelphia.
