FAIRFAX, Va. - After leading 2-0 at halftime, the George Mason women's soccer team used two goals in the second half to defeat Towson Wednesday night 4-3 at George Mason Stadium. Jazmin Cardoso scored the game-winner in the 83rd minute, converting a penalty kick.

Mason closed out the regular season with an overall record of 7-11-1 and a Colonial Athletic Association mark of 3-6-1. Towson dipped to 1-15-2 and 1-8-1.

For the game, Mason outshot Towson 24-10, including an 11-4 shots on goal edge. Tiana Kallenberger and Casey Vornadore led Mason each with five shots, while Cheyenne Skidmore and Emily Banes led the Tigers with three apiece. In net, Lyndse Hokanson picked up the win for the Patriots and recorded one save. Erin Quinn drew the loss and made seven saves.

Liz Hodges put Mason up 1-0 in the 12th minute completing a Kallenberger cross. From midfield, Cardoso passed it out to Kallenberger on the near side. The senior carried it down the line and delivered a perfect cross to Hodges in the middle of the net as the sophomore headed it just over the reach of Quinn for her seventh goal of the season.

Vornadore doubled the Patriots' lead in the 23rd minute as the junior controlled a clear, kicked it in from four-yards out as the attempt deflected off a Towson defender into the bottom right corner for a 2-0 Mason lead.

Early in the second half, Kallenberger drilled a shot from 20-yards out into the bottom left corner, but Quinn dropped to her knees to make the stop. In the 49th minute, Mason put together another solid scoring opportunity as Kelly Pizzingrilli placed a shot towards the lower right corner, but a Tiger defender was in net to make the save.

Towson tried to put together an opportunity in the 54th minute when Banes received the ball from Katlyn Axenfeld. Banes' shot hit the crossbar and bounced back into play. The Tigers broke through in the 63rd minute when Skidmore drove the ball into the upper right corner from the near post off a Katie Ponce assist, setting up a 2-1 score.

Towson knotted the score 2-2 in the 70th minute when Ponce scored off an assist from Banes. The Patriots, however, retook the lead less than 20 seconds later when Emma Starr drove a shot that hit the crossbar and on the rebound, Sydney Mitchell punched it in for the goal.

The Tigers knotted it back up with a tally from Skidmore from three-yards out, forcing a 3-3 game with nine minutes to play.

Just a minute later, Mason was awarded a penalty kick after a Towson foul that Cardoso converted for a 4-3 Patriot lead, proving to be the game-winner.
