HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. - Lyndse Hokanson made seven stops in net,
but a goal in the 48th minute by Hofstra's Sam Scolarici was enough
to seal a 1-0 Pride win over the George Mason women's soccer team Friday night.
Five different Patriots put a shot on goal, but were unable to find the back of
the net in the Colonial Athletic Association contest.
The conference foes played through a scoreless opening
period before the Pride (9-5, 5-1) scored the lone goal of the evening just
over two minutes into the second half. Tiana Kallenberger and Casey Vornadore
led Mason (5-9-1. 1-4-1) offensively each taking three shots, putting one on
target each, while Mary Kate Lowry, Kelly Pizzingrilli and Jazmin Cardoso each
added a shot on goal.
For the game, Hofstra outshot Mason 21-10, including an 8-5
shots on frame advantage. The Pride also held a 4-0 advantage in corner kicks.
Hokanson made seven stops in the contest, including four in the first half,
while Hofstra goalkeeper Emily Morphitis kept a clean slate with five saves.
At 47:10, Scolarici scored near the left post off a cross
from Lulu Echeverry, proving to be the eventual game-winner. The Patriots
looked for the equalizer with three shots on frame in the second half, but was
unable to convert on the opportunities.
Mason returns to action and plays its final
regular season road game at Northeastern on Sunday, October 14. Game time is
slated for 12 p.m.
