FAIRFAX, Va. - Junior Lana Zonjic had 23 kills but it was not enough to
deal Towson its first conference loss of the season, as the George Mason women's
volleyball team fell to the Tigers, 3-1, on Friday evening at the RAC. Set
scores were 27-25, 25-23, 19-25, 25-22. Towson improves to 18-3 and 5-0 in
Colonial Athletic Association play, while the Patriots dip to 2-3 in conference
play and 4-14 overall.
Zonjic was the lone Patriot in double-digit kills, while
classmate Tori Price had 43 assists and freshman Bernetta Moore led all players
with 16 digs. For Towson, who had not dropped a set in conference play prior to
Friday match, four players had double figure kills led by Marta Machos and
Dayane Van Ass who chipped in 15.
Mason out-hit the Tigers by a .313-to-.286 margin and won
the battle at the net, seven blocks to four.
The Patriots will continue conference play at home on
Saturday night at 7 p.m., hosting Delaware. The contest is the Game of the
Week, and Mason students with their valid student ID can receive a free
Chick-Fil-A sandwich while supplies last.
