Fairfax County First Responder Basketball Game - George Mason Intercollegiate Athletics Department in partnership with the Fairfax County Police Department will present the "2012 Making a Difference Award" to PFC Kevin Horan.  In its first year being presented, the award recognizes a first responder who gives back to their community outside of their regular job duties.

Horan grew up locally and joined a police youth Explorer program as a teenager. Today, as a police officer, PFC Horan volunteers as the lead advisor with the Fairfax County Police Explorers providing leadership and citizenship education to young men and women ages 14 to 20.

The Boy Scout Explorer Troop sold 200 tickets to the game and will receive a check for $1,000 as part of the fundraiser. Tickets not used by purchaser were automatically given to the soldiers and their families at Fort Belvoir.

The Color Guard and singer of the National Anthem are provided by Fairfax County Police. First Responders night is an opportunity to publicly thank and recognize all police, fire, EMS, sheriff, 9-1-1, and emergency services workers for all they do to make our communities and families safe.

The George Mason men's basketball team clashes with Georgia State Saturday afternoon in a battle of the only two teams with unblemished Colonial Athletic Association records ... Georgia State, picked to finish 11th in the conference's preseason poll, sits atop the standings alongside Mason with a 3-0 mark in CAA play and an 11-3 record overall.  The Panthers have won 11 straight after dropping their first three games of the season, the nation's sixth-longest active win streak. Most recently, the Panthers took down VCU in Richmond, 55-53, on Wednesday night. Devonta White leads a trio of Panthers who average double-digit scoring with 13.6 points per game ... Mason has won the last three meetings with the Panthers and leads the overall series, 8-2.
