BLACKSBURG, VA. - The George Mason track and field team
competed at the two day Hokie Invitational on the campus of Virginia Tech,
recording eight IC4A qualifying marks during the event.
For the men, Robert Reynolds, Alex Zyryanov, Everett
Hackett, Lavell Handy, Adrian Vaughn, Nick Vaughn, Alex Levine and the 4x400
relay of Nick Vaughn, Adrian Vaughn, Ja-Vell Bullard and David Verburg all
posted IC4A qualifying times.
Reynolds ran a time of 4:14.50 in the mile run, finishing
fifth, while Zyryanov and Hackett finished in fourth and fifth place in the
3000m run with qualifying times of 8:24.04 and 8:24.06, respectively. Levine
qualified for the 800m run with a time of 1:54.61 en route to a fourth-place
finish.
Adrian Vaughn finished second in the 200m dash (21.50), and
brother Nick Vaughn finished fourth in the 400m dash with a qualifying time of
48.63. The quartet of Nick Vaughn, Adrian Vaughn, Bullard and Verburg claimed
the top spot in the 4x400m relay with a qualifying time of 3:10.07. That time is currently the sixth best in the country.
In the field events, Handy finished third in the triple
jump, posting a qualifying mark of 15.29m.
Other top finishes for the men at the meet were Verburg
placing first in the 600m run (1:18.06), which was a facility and school record, Dwight Webley taking fourth in the
long jump (7.21m) and the 4x800 relay of Parker Boudreau, David Rushing, Levine
and David Klimek taking the second spot (7:40.39).
On the women's side, the team was paced by a second place
finish from the 4x400 relay team of Daianna Barron, Taylor Wheaton, Aneesha Scott
and Cierra McGee (3:43.69) and Dominique Graham finishing in a tie for second
place in the high jump (1.68m).
McGee also recorded a fourth place finish in the 300m dash
with a time of 39.15 and a ninth place finish in the 200m dash (25.08), while
the 4x800 relay of Monique McKenzie, Victoria Samyn, Heather Selheimer and Lauren
Givens placed fifth with a time of 9:18.56.
Mason returns to action on Saturday, hosting the Patriot
Games. Events are slated to begin at 10:00 am.
